Zinnia Mukherjee joined Simmons College in 2013 as Assistant Professor of Economics. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of Connecticut.

Zinnia's primary research interests lie in applied microeconomics with emphasis on environmental economics and natural resource use, public economics and industrial organization.

From 2009 to 2012, Zinnia was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics at Connecticut College in New London, CT. There she taught econometrics, introductory macro and microeconomics, intermediate microeconomics, environmental economics, urban economics and a senior seminar in environmental and natural resource economics. She also supervised independent student research projects and served as an academic advisor for economics majors. She continued at Connecticut College as an adjunct economics faculty in 2012-2013.

From August 2011 to August 2013, Zinnia was a Research Fellow at the American Institute for Economic Research, a non-profit research institution, in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Her responsibilities included conducting economic analyses, writing on economic issues for a general audience, leading and coordinating the efforts of the research team to produce monthly Business Cycle Conditions Report.

She is a member of the American Economic Association (AEA), the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE) and European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE).
