Susan Bloom's Favorite Books 2010

I always take time, before the end of the semester actually occurs, and all the students begin to travel home, to spent an afternoon with my friend Susan Bloom. Her theme this year was COUNTDOWN. Taking a cue from Deborah Wiles novel by that name, Susan provided her guests with homemade ginger snaps in the shape of the phonograph record on the book's cover. There also was cider and bright yellow napkins, and the precious list called "Selections of the Best Children's and Young Adult Books of 2010."

What a wonderful presentation. I did dip my cookie in my coffee to take a bit of the snap out of it. I already have gifted Lane Smith's "It's a Book." And I look forward to spending time with Susan's top picks. They are There's Going to Be a Baby by John Burningham and illustrator Helen Oxenbury, and The Rabbit Problem by Emily Gravett (having fun with the Fibonacci Series . . . but it is not about Math!).
