Celebrating our Student's Achievements - Sara Valverde '11

Sara is currently studying abroad in Ecuador through the School for International Studies (SIT), Comparative Ecology and Conservation program. She lived in Quito with a family while taking Spanish and ecology classes. Excursions to do field work included La Florida Reserva in the Andean cloud forest, the Tiputini Biodiversity Station of USF Quito, located in the western Amazonian River Basin, and the Galapagos archipelago by staying on a boat or with a host family on Isla Isabela. Sara is conducting an independent research project for the month of April in Vilcabamba, near Loja, on data collection and commercialization opportunities of medicinal plants. She plans to intern as a research assistant at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. this Summer. Last Fall semester, Sara studied Spanish and Spanish civilization and culture in Granada, Spain at the Universidad de Granada through the Granada Institute for International Studies (GRIIS).

Anticipated graduation: 2011
Environmental science major and Spanish minor, Pre-Med focus.
