Michele Cohen recently joined the Simmons faculty as Assistant Professor of Arts Administration and Director of the Trustman Art Gallery. From 1989-2009, she served as the founding director of the Public Art for Public Schools program for the New York City public schools.

Professor Cohen has lectured and published widely here and abroad on public art and art conservation. Her most recent book, Public Art for Public Schools, with a foreword by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, is a history of New York City public school art and architecture (The Monacelli Press, 2009). Cohen teaches courses in a variety of topics, including the biennial New York Institute, an intensive month-long immersion in the cultural life of New York City for Arts Administration majors.

Cohen received her B.A. in Art History and English Literature from the State University of New York at Buffalo and her Ph.D. in Art History from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
