Unconditional Silence: Pattern and Membrane
Recent Sculpture by Therese Zemlin
April 23-June 1
Therese Zemlin will exhibit her newest sculptures that focus on
ideas of organic form. "Therese Zemlin: Unconditional Silence:
Pattern and Membrane Recent Sculpture" will be exhibited
April 23-June 1 at the Simmons College Trustman Art Gallery, fourth
floor Simmons Main Campus Building, 300 The Fenway. A reception
from 4:30-6:30 p.m. April 26 will include a gallery talk at 5
p.m.
Zemlin's remarkable paper and motorized sculptures are based on
organic forms and the artist's explorations of pattern, natural
phenomena, and culture. Combining scanned images and three-dimensional
paper objects with kinetic elements, the artist creates unique
forms which have been called "biomorphic bellows". Using
a method of construction related to collapsible Japanese Gifu
Lanterns, Zemlin's sculptures are simultaneously post-industrial
and natural.
Exhibit hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Monday through Friday. The gallery is wheelchair accessible. For
more information, contact Christine Kromer at 617.21.2268.
