Sheryl L. White: Visual Journals The Trustman Art Gallery November 1 - 23, 1999 Painter Sheryl White creates what she terms "eyes"- small, subtly varied oil on paperboard rectangles of color. Through the repetition of this single element, White creates an abstract visual journal. When grouped in sequence these 2 by 3 inch forms become a metaphor for language, or for years in the artist's life. The simplicity and small scale of her work invites careful introspection. The viewer can explore the process of revealing, and perhaps discover what is there or what is absent. White shares with us her love for the written word and provides a glimpse into her life through an unspoken narrative, an unlimited forum, her Visual Journal. |
