Alice Spencer: New Work
February 11 - March 8, 2002

Simmons College presents "Alice Spencer: New Work" in her first Boston Solo exhibition Feb. 11-March 8 at the Simmons College Trustman Art Gallery, fourth floor, Main Campus Building, 300 The Fenway. There will be a reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Feb. 21, with a gallery talk at 5:00. The event is free and open to the public.

Spencer, an active member of the Portland Maine art community poses questions regarding the continuity of experience in the scarred, layered surfaces and patterns of her mixed media paintings. In the artist’s words: "Pattern making is intrinsic to every known culture. It has its origins in the need to codify nature and to incorporate its power and beauty into the objects and structures of the manmade environment".

The artist has exhibited her prints and paintings widely in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York. Simmons is pleased to bring this strong body of work to Boston.

Exhibit hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gallery is wheelchair accessible. For more information, contact Christine Kromer at 617-521-2268.
