The first Boston-area solo exhibition of prints and paintings by Connecticut artist Laurie Sloan will be featured at Simmons College's Trustman Art Gallery during the month of September.

Sloan's images suggest biological events which playfully convey the enigmatic complexities of organic processes and the ambiguities of time. The artist describes her work as encompassing "mutation, evolution, repulsion, attraction, familiarity, strangeness, deterioration and the potential for new existence."

An associate professor at the University of Connecticut at Storrs, Sloan has exhibited her work widely. This exhibition will provide the Boston community with its first opportunity to view a significant body of work by one of New England's strongest emerging artists.

"Laurie Sloan: Prints and Paintings" opens Mon., Aug. 31, and runs through Fri., Oct. 2, at the Trustman Art Gallery on the fourth floor of the Main College Building, Simmons College, 300 The Fenway, Boston. The exhibition will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Gallery events are free and open to the public and the building is wheelchair accessible.
