SALON REDUX
October 1 - 26, 2001
Simmons College presents "Salon redux,"
Oct. 1-Oct. 26 at the Simmons College Trustman Art Gallery, fourth
floor, Main Campus Building, 300 The Fenway. There will be a reception
from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and a gallery talk with the artists and curator
at 5:00 on Wednesday, Oct. 10. The event is free and open to the
public.
"Salon redux," an exhibition of eight women artists,
originated as "Salon" at the Montserrat College of Art
Gallery last summer. The Trustman exhibit features the paintings,
sculpture, and photographs of Diane Ayott of Salem, MA; Åsa
Chibás of Brooklyn, NY; Kathleen Connolly, Marty Epp, Liz
Sweibel and Traci Wile, all of Boston; Leah Giberson Olsen of
Brookline, MA, and Susan Scott of Milton, MA.
Laura Donaldson, curator of this exhibition as well as the original
"Salon," states that "the artists in the show formed
a group three years ago to provide feedback, stimulation and support
to each other as artists, and in the process created a modern
re-interpretation of the 19th century salon - traditionally a
forum for debate on cultural and political issues." "Salon"
was their first exhibition as a group and the exhibit will be
presented to a Boston audience in a slightly modified form or,
redux.
Exhibit hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The gallery is wheelchair accessible. For more information, contact
Christine Kromer at 617-521-2268.
