The light, space, and motion of natural
surroundings come together in paintings created by Tim Nichols. "Tim
Nichols: Stitch in Time" will be exhibited Oct. 11 to Nov. 3 at the
newly renovated Simmons College Trustman Art Gallery, fourth floor Simmons
Main Campus Building, 300 The Fenway. A reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Oct. 12 will include a gallery talk at 5 p.m.
Nichols says his work is "about where I live the house, the
hayfield, the tree lines, and especially the pond
I am immersed
in the sounds and smells of the place
This provided me with the
needed connection to nature."
Nichols, who resides in Foster, RI, says he rarely uses brushes while
working, preferring to "deliver the paint by pouring, then moving
it around with knives, spatulas, sticks, and blocks of wood." The
finished products are meant to evoke feelings of motion and an awareness
of light and space.
Nichols has exhibited widely and has been a faculty member at the School
of the Museum of Fine Art since 1974.
Exhibit
hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mon-Fri. Gallery events are free and
open to the public. The building is wheelchair accessible. For more information,
