The Simmons College Trustman Art Gallery presents "Between What I See and What I Say," an exhibition of recent paintings by Colleen Kiely, running Feb. 6 - Mar. 3 at the Trustman Art Gallery at Simmons College, Main College Building, fourth floor, 300 The Fenway in Boston.

Exhibit hours are from 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Mon. through Fri. Admission is free. A reception featuring Kiely will take place Thurs., Feb. 23, from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m.

Kiely's last Boston solo exhibit, "On the Road," was shown at the Bernard Toale Gallery in Boston in 2003. In 2005, her work was included in "Pretty/Sweet: The Sentimental Image in Contemporary Art" at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Mass.

Kiely continues to search the cultural landscape, redefining the popular, the sacred, and the sentimental into layered psychological portraits. The artist describes her work as juxtaposing "the sentimental and grotesque, the absurd and serious, with each painting striking a different balance between opposite poles." Her small painting "Dog with Egg Hat" (2005), for example, depicts an appealing combination of elements that celebrate a personal, but iconoclastic subject. Kiely supports her pictorial content and her objectives by employing a wide range of traditional and craft materials which include oil, alkyd, acrylic, fabric and glitter.

The Trustman Art Gallery takes particular pride in having Colleen Kiely's work presented in conjunction with the College Art Association's February meeting in Boston. Kiely joined the Simmons College Department of Art and Music faculty in September 2005.
