Graffiti, a global art movement with origins in urban hip hop culture is dominated by young people working in violation of the law. Perceived by society as vandals these "writers" risk danger and imprisonment to create their work.

The Trustman exhibit will explore a wide range of graffiti images- tags, throwups, pieces, legal walls- represented through video, photography, "zines", and installation. Using the spray can, marker and roller the graffiti artist challenges the gallery and museum tradition and defines public art in a uniquely radical way.

"Graffiti" opens Tues., September 7, and runs through Fri., October 1, at the Trustman Art Gallery on the fourth floor of the Main College Building, Simmons College, 300 The Fenway, Boston.

The exhibition will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A reception and gallery talk will be held on Thursday, September 9, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Gallery events are free and open to the public and the building is wheelchair accessible.
