The Trustman Art Gallery is pleased to present the work of 85-year-old New Jersey artist Virginia Bailey, featuring lively mixed media paintings of animals. The ostrich, hippo, raccoon, horse, mouse, crab, camel, zebra, cat and owl are all part of the menagerie that provides a fresh and inventive interpretation of a familiar art historical theme. While Virginia Bailey is an educated woman with art training, the directness of her work prompts "outsider art" references. Her work has been represented in numerous one-person and group exhibits in New York, Washington, D.C., San Jose, Calif., New Jersey, and London, England. "Bailey's Bestiary" is a refreshing exhibit with the capacity to engage viewers of all ages.
The Trustman Art Gallery is located on the 4th floor of the Main College Building at Simmons College, 300 The Fenway, Boston, MA 02115. Gallery hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The gallery will be closed February 16. A reception with gallery talk by the artist will be held on Thursday, February 5 from 4:30-6:30pm. Gallery events are free and open to the public. For more information regarding this exhibition please call Evelyn Kofler at (617) 521-2268.
