A.E. in Liguria: Window

The Arbitrary Imposition of Will on Laundry

Blending sculpture and painting, humor and irony, Boston-based artist A. E. Ryan will exhibit her work Oct. 4-29 at the Simmons College Trustman Art Gallery. Ryan's narrative three-dimensional constructions present a wry view on timeless themes and places. Her pieces feature a multitude of reclaimed objects and a warm, Mediterranean palette. Subjects range from reworkings of art historical canons such as "The Annunciation," to contemplative reflections on travel and the architecture of foreign lands. Ryanıs appreciation for both Gothic and Early Renaissance iconic art, and for good food are apparent. Her ambiguous tales and humorous take on life will appeal to the serious art historian, the armchair traveler and anyone in between.

"A. E. Ryan: The Rapture of the Tribulation" opens Monday, Oct. 4 and runs through Friday, Oct. 29 at the Trustman Art Gallery, fourth floor Simmons Main Campus Building, 300 The Fenway. A reception and gallery talk will be held Thursday, Oct. 7 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Exhibit hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The gallery will be closed on October 11 and 12. Gallery events are free and open to the public. The building is wheelchair accessible. For more information, contact Evelyn Kofler at 617-521-2268.
