Health and wellness is an important part of student life at Simmons.
We offer students unlimited access to our award-winning sports
center, healthy eating options in the dining hall, and access to
professional health services. We also have a wellness hall
that is substance free, and supports a healthy and holistic lifestyle.
Simmons
College Health Center
The Simmons Health Center, located on the residence campus, offers health
care to Simmons students seven days a week, 24 hours a day during the academic
year. Physicians, registered nurses, and nurse practitioners staff the
center. All physicians are board certified and have appointments at
Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, both
just down the street.
J.
Garton Needham Counseling Center
The Counseling Center's staff offers personal counseling services to
undergraduate and graduate students who wish to discuss their concerns
and questions with staff psychologists, or interns in psychology, counseling,
and social work.
Health
Education
The Health Education Program educates students about important health
topics and fosters a health-conscious culture at Simmons. Programs are
taught in classes, residence halls, through clubs, organizations, and
sports teams. Topics include safety in the city, a self-defense course,
healthy relationships, stress and time management, smoking cessation,
healthy eating, eating disorders, drugs and alcohol, and safe sex.
Campus
Ministries
Spiritual well-being is an important consideration for many students.
There is an Office of Campus Chaplains, as well as several student religious organizations available to you.
Lifelong
Exercise & Activities Program
The Lifelong Exercise & Activities Program (LEAP) is designed to
provide noncredit instructional classes, workshops, field trips, professional
training, and recreational activities. LEAP provides both the education
and opportunity to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The
Wellness Hall (South Hall)
South Hall is substance free. The residence life staff works with the
residents of the hall to integrate the concept of holistic health in
to the residential community. All Wellness Hall residents agree not
bring the influence of alcohol or other drugs into the residence hall.
Special programs and events offer many ways to encourage students to
enhance their self-awareness and develop a personal perspective of mind,
body, and soul.
