Two blocks from the main campus, the Simmons residence campus is a
cozy oasis in the lively Fenway neighborhood. Traditional brick residence
halls enclose a grassy, tree-lined quad where students study on sunny
days. Bartol Dining Hall, the Holmes Sports Center, and the campus health
center are located here. Special events such as concerts, parties, and
dances are held at Alumnae Hall. Students kick back at the Quadside
Café on weekday evenings; catch a movie across the street at the Landmark
Center; or head out for an evening on Lansdowne Street to socialize
with students from other colleges.
Outside the residence campus gates, the neighborhood is a nice mix of
cafes, colleges, museums, and the nationally renowned Longwood medical
research and teaching institutions. Historic Fenway Park baseball stadium
is within cheering distance. Nearby, the Back Bay Fens, part of the Emerald
Necklace park system, encompasses the elegant Rose Garden, Clemente Ball
Field, and the community Victory Gardens.

Campus Traditions
Yes, they’re a little weird. But trust us, campus traditions make
living on campus special. Here are three favorites:
The Merry Month of May
Celebrating May Day is an age-old Simmons tradition. Every May 1, sophomores
serenade the seniors at the break of dawn with pots, pans, noisemakers,
and shaving cream. Festivities include a maypole dance, tree planting,
and a strawberry shortcake breakfast.
Time for Tea
Tea is one of many long-standing traditions at Simmons. Once a week, resident
students gather in their living rooms to snack, socialize, listen to guest
speakers, meet with faculty on an informal basis, and, of course, drink
tea.
Floor Snacks
Floormates gather in their lounge or even in the hallway to chit chat, catch-up, enjoy a floor program, and snack on some tasty treats.
