Scott/Ross Center Fellowship in Nonprofit Management

The Scott/Ross Center Fellowship in Nonprofit Management provides Simmons students with the opportunity to explore nonprofit management while also developing and applying their skills to the service of a Boston area non-profit organization. Emily Scott Pottruck '78, member of the College's Board of Trustees, established three nine-week paid fellowships for students with distinguished records of community service to pursue their interest and further expand their knowledge in philanthropy and grant making and non-profit programming and management challenges.

The fellows work with the Boston Foundation to gain an understanding of philanthropy and grant making. They are also placed in up to two non-profit community partners to further develop programmatic expertise and to understand management issues and challenges in leading non-profit organizations. Specific projects will be designed based on the student's interests and experience and may relate to such aspects of nonprofit management as governance, financial management, fundraising, human resources, volunteer management, marketing and communications and leadership.

"The strength of this fellowship is that it allows you to experience a large spectrum of the nonprofit sector. Allowing Fellows to spend time in multiple organizations allows them to see many different kinds of leadership and management along with the different kinds of organizations out there" - Jennie Holloway '14, 2012 S/RC Fellow
"We traveled to Boston neighborhoods we had never been to, joined TBF staff on site visits to grantee organizations, and heard from street workers whose work is amazing and deeply challenging. So much learning and growth in just nine weeks! And I also appreciated the pace and variety of the Fellowship to keep us on our toes and never bored." - Jen Brown, SW '14
