<h3>Interprofessional Fellowship in Palliative Care </h3>

<h4>Job Description</h4>
<P>The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System Interprofessional&nbsp; Fellowship in Palliative Care is one of six in the VA system&nbsp; nationwide that seeks professionals from across disciplines to develop&nbsp; leaders with vision, knowledge, and commitment to the field of&nbsp; palliative care. The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System is&nbsp; recruiting postgraduate social workers for this one-year fellowship&nbsp; from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010. </P>
<P>Program Description </P>
<P>The fellowship is an intensive training experience consisting of&nbsp; clinical rotations exposing fellows to the multidimensional needs of&nbsp; Veterans and families across the continuum of life-limiting illness.&nbsp; Fellows are exposed to patient-centered, interdisciplinary team-based&nbsp; care in a number of settings, including acute inpatient palliative&nbsp; care consultation, inpatient hospice, home hospice, and outpatient&nbsp; palliative care clinic. </P>
<P>Fellows participate in interdisciplinary rounds, didactic&nbsp; presentations, journal club, and weekly palliative-care focused&nbsp; lectures to enhance their learning. Fellows will have the opportunity&nbsp; to choose and develop a clinical project as well as research and&nbsp; present an in-depth, evidence-based lecture on a palliative care&nbsp; related topic. Elective opportunities are available at other VA and&nbsp; community facilities based on the fellow’s experience and areas of&nbsp; professional interest. Supervision is provided by licensed social workers at the West Los Angeles VA. </P>


<h4>Requirements/Qualifications</h4>
<P>The applicant must have a Master of Social Work degree from an accredited school of social work. MSW students in their final year of school (who would like to start the fellowship after graduation) may&nbsp; apply. Field work or professional experience in the areas of medical, oncology, and/or hospice social work encouraged. The applicant must demonstrate commitment to the field of palliative care both clinical work and scholarship. </P>

<P>This full-time fellowship offers advanced training in clinical practice, teaching and community outreach under a federal grant for Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH).&nbsp; The Division of Adolescent Medicine is a primary care medical clinic that serves adolescents and young adults from the Boston area, as well as offering specialty services in eating disorders and HIV.&nbsp; The fellow is responsible for mental health assessment, consultation, crisis intervention and treatment, and will also receive training and experience in the evaluation and treatment of eating disorders.</P>
<P>The fellow functions as part of a multi-disciplinary team and is responsible for consultation with medical providers and teaching of medical residents. There are two hours per week of individual supervision, training in multicultural competency and research, and seminars with the Dept of Psychiatry.&nbsp; Stipend and benefits included. <h4>Job Description</h4>
<P>The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announces openings for the 2008 – 2009 academic year of its Interprofessional Fellowship Program in Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Oriented Services for veterans with serious mental illness. The Fellowship Program is a state-of-the-art, clinical training program that focuses on the theory and practice of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery. Individualized, mentored clinical and research training is combined with a curriculum that emphasizes a comprehensive psychosocial rehabilitation approach to service delivery, education, and implementing change in a mental health care setting. Fellows will work with veterans with serious mental illnesses and receive training in delivering a range of evidence-based practices. The purpose of the Interprofessional Fellowship Program is to develop future mental health leaders with vision, knowledge, and commitment to transform mental health care systems in the 21st century by emphasizing functional capability, rehabilitation, and recovery. The Fellowship Program is offered at seven VA sites.</P>
<P>Applications are solicited across a range of disciplines (including social work, psychology, psychiatry, nursing, vocational rehabilitation, and occupational therapy). The fellowship is either full or half time for social work.&nbsp;&nbsp; Full time fellows are eligible for health and life insurance benefits. All fellows earn leave and are entitled to Federal holidays. </P>
<P>Applications will be accepted and reviewed at each site until all positions are filled. Application requirements and specifications may differ across sites, so please contact the Fellowship Director at each site of interest.</P>
