Housing Specialist

Job Description
Responsible for assisting women, made homeless by domestic violence, secure permanent housing, and providing post-shelter stabilization services to assist with maintaining stability after placement. The Housing Specialist will assess the housing needs of program participants, collaborating with agency staff and Residential-based organizations to assist them in achieving the goal of finding safe, affordable, permanent housing.
This position is an exempt position and reports to the Director of Residential Services.
Requirements/Qualifications
• Bachelor degree in Human Services, Public Policy, Social Work or Counseling preferred, or three years experience in Residential-based housing programs.
• Knowledge of government and Community-based housing programs and social service agencies.
• Bilingual fluency in Spanish preferred.
• A minimum of two years of case management experience.
• Familiarity with issues of domestic violence and its impact on families.
• Previous experience working in a residential program a plus.
• Ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
• Ability to work collaboratively.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Ability to develop and maintain resources in the Community.
• Creative problem solving skills.
• Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and dependable automobile required.
• Flexible schedule; some evenings and weekends required.
Must complete mandated 40-hour domestic violence training (or provide documentation of training), in addition to other trainings, as required.

Position Summary: Residential counselors work as part of a team providing guidance, education, supervision, and direct supports which allow adults who have long term mental illness to maintain their physical and emotional health, live safely in the community, and develop the skills necessary for more independent living. Interactions between staff and consumers are guided by an appreciation for those being served as unique individuals and as adults. We believe that the heart of residential services lies in the ability to provide individualized support in a community setting that is based on each consumer's strengths, interests and needs.
The overnight counselor has primary responsibility for maintaining a safe milieu at night, performing assigned administrative and household duties, and for initiating the morning routines and consumer supports at the beginning of the day. Awake and asleep positions available.
Requirements/Qualifications
Bachelors degree or 3 years related experience, the ability to communicate in and comprehend the English language, including clearly documenting consumer progress and activities in program records, ability to work independently and to function as a member of a team. Valid driver's license and dependable transportation required.
