If Simmons had not been so flexible in its part-time program, I never would have had the opportunity to go back to school for a second Master's degree. The faculty, the students, and the general atmosphere of the school make Simmons an exciting, intellectually stimulating place to be.

In addition to the keynote and workshops, awards will be presented to group workers from the community, as well as students from BSW and MSW programs in the area. This is a wonderful opportunity to align with a professional organization, network, and connect with social group workers from across New England.

Assistant Professor Dana Leeman Grossman published “Conversations That Continue Long After They are Over: The impact of the research on the researcher” in the spring issue of Reflections: Narratives of Professional Helping.

Prof. Johnnie Hamilton-Mason presented a paper entitled "Understanding the Significance of Racism and Sexism in the Lives of Black Women" as an ORAL PAPER during the 2010 Annual Conference of the Society for Social Work and Research which was held in San Francisco, CA on January 17th.

Alumna Rita Nieves, SW 2007, featured in an article in the Bay State Banner

Alumna Rita Nieves, SW 2007, is featured in an article in the Bay State Banner about an experimental women's addiction treatment program developed in Boston.

Rita was one of the team leaders that developed the Boston Consortium Model for treating women with addictions, histories of trauma and mental health issues. She received her M.S.W. from Simmons College in 2007.

The School of Social Work to provide continuing education to psychologists - only social work school in Massachusetts to be granted such approval.

The School of Social Work to provide continuing education to psychologists - only social work school in Massachusetts to be granted such approval.
The School of Social Work recently received a two-year preliminary approval from the American Psychological Association to provide continuing education to psychologists. The SSW is the only social work school in Massachusetts to be granted such approval.

"Leadership in Tough Times" presented by Dr. Ronald Heifetz at Simmons College School of Social Work on Thursday, January 13, 2010 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

About the topic: As social workers, we hope to make a difference in people’s lives, and this work often requires us to take leadership risks. We are facing tough times, as clients are struggling and agencies are fighting to survive. Whether you are a social work student or a seasoned professional, you are in a position to influence others and mobilize change efforts. Dr. Heifetz will explore with us how to use ourselves in the service of advancing what we care about most, as we face day-to-day workplace challenges.


About the presenter: Dr. Heifetz is the Founding Director of the Center for Public Leadership, King Hussein bin Talal Senior Lecturer in Public Leadership at Harvard Kennedy School, and a founding principal in Cambridge Leadership Associates. He is the author of Leadership Without Easy Answers and the co-author of Leadership on the Line: Staying Alive through the Dangers of Leading and The Practice of Adaptive Leadership. Known worldwide for his seminal work on the practice and teaching of leadership, Heifetz consults widely with senior executives in government, business, and nonprofit organizations. He is a graduate of Columbia University, Harvard Medical School, and Harvard Kennedy School, and has completed his medical training in psychiatry.
