The Application Process

Applicants may call the SSW admission office at 617-521-3939 to request an application, download and print an application, or apply online Link opens in a new browser window. In recent years, the number of qualified applicants has greatly exceeded available openings. Therefore, we strongly encourage early application submission.

M.S.W. Application Process

Please submit a completed application file that includes the following:

  • completed application form
  • nonrefundable application fee
  • 3-5 page personal statement of career goals and how the program supports them
  • official college transcripts, indicating graduation date
  • three letters of professional or academic recommendation
  • TOEFL scores, if English is not the first language
  • source of income statement (for international students)

Filing Dates

Spring 2008 (January start date)
General admission: October 15, 2007

Fall 2008 (September start date)
Early acceptance: December 15
General admission: February 15 - We have extended our application deadline for Fall 2008 until April 30th, 2008.

The SSW Admissions office encourages you to adhere to the application filing dates. We will continue to accept applications until all spaces are filled with qualified applicants. If you have missed the deadline and would like to file an application please contact the Admissions office, 617-521-3939. Candidates who file after the deadline will be considered as openings occur. Applicants applying for readmission must also conform to this schedule.

It is the applicant’s responsibility for mailing the application packet as a complete unit. Incomplete applications packets will not be reviewed for admission until all materials are received.

Ph.D. Application Process

Please submit a completed application file that includes the following:

  • completed application form
  • nonrefundable application fee
  • official transcripts of all past or current academic work
  • current resume
  • written case presentation
  • three letters of professional or academic recommendation
  • personal statement of career goals and how the program supports them
  • TOEFL scores, if English is not the first language
  • Miller Analogies Test scores within the past five years
  • interview with a member of the Doctoral Committee after favorable review of admission materials

Filing Date

February 1
