Field Placement Options

  • Full-Time Program Internships are three days (24 hours) per week from September to May for both years of the M.S.W. program. Students take four classes concurrently the other two days. Summer class options and evening classes allow some flexibility.
  • Extended Program Internships, taken during the second and third years of the program, are three days (24 hours) per week from September to May. Some students stretch the program to four years, interning their second and fourth years.
  • Employment as Field Placement is relevant to students who are currently employed by a human service agency. Students may be permitted to do their first-year internship as a supervised "job placement" at their current agency, if the agency can provide a new caseload and a new M.S.W. supervisor.
  • One-Year Placement Option is a three-year program for extended students who have substantial experience in social work without having a BSW degree. Students who meet the guidelines and are accepted into the program, take two additional classes and complete one extended field placement during their third year. A placement can be done at the student’s current place of employment if the proposed placement meets SSW criteria.
  • Advanced Standing Internships are available for students with a recent BSW who are accepted into our advanced standing program. Internships are three days per week (24 hours), in one agency, from early September through early August. Classes are taken concurrently in each of the three semesters.
