The One-Year Placement Option is a field placement option designed as a three-year program for Extended Program students with substantial experience working in a social work role. Students apply for this option after acceptance into the M.S.W. program.
To be eligible for OYO, students must:
- Be currently employed full-time in a clinical social work role and receiving professional supervision.
- Have at least three years of post bachelor's degree, full-time direct practice experience with clinical social worker responsibilities — including skills and experience in doing psychosocial assessments and planned interventions with individuals, families, or groups.
- Have a minimum of one year’s supervision by a clinical social worker that has an M.S.W. degree and at least two years of experience. The supervised work should have occurred within the last three years and included a minimum of one hour per week of individual supervision. Note: A verification letter from the supervisor is required.
- Be a student in good standing.
Students who meet OYO guidelines and are accepted into the program are required to:
- Take two additional electives (approved by advisor).
- Attend a monthly advising seminar in Year II.
- Complete one 992-hour, four-day-per-week placement.
Students considering OYO should discuss their educational plans with their employer early in the decision process if they are planning to request educational leave. Students approved for OYO should plan to do a placement at a field placement agency other than their own current place of employment.
