Ellen Rottersmann has been a social worker and psychotherapist for 17 years. A graduate of Boston University School of Social Work, she spent several years working in community mental health in neighborhoods around Boston with a wide range of clients and issues, specializing in working with depression, grief and trauma. In 1998, Ms. Rottersmann began work at Fenway Community Health. She developed expertise in clinical issues facing the LGBT community and became the Coordinator of the Transgender Health Program. In that capacity, Ms. Rottersmann ran the multi-disciplinary team addressing the medical and mental health needs of transgender clients as well as overseeing the training and education of the Fenway staff to increase cultural competence in meeting the needs of gender-variant clients. Throughout her career, Ms. Rottersmann has supervised master's level students. Now in private practice in Brookline seeing a variety of clients, she also conducts trainings and supervision for agencies and clinicians working with LGBT clients and their families.
