Adjunct Faculty

Christopher O'Rourke, M.S.W., M. Div.

Christopher O'Rourke earned his M.S.W. from the Smith College School for Social Work and his M.Div. degree from the Harvard Divinity School, Harvard University. He has extensive experience in community mental health, having begun his career in inpatient psychiatry at The Erich Lindemann Mental Health Center. For nine years, he worked for North Suffolk Mental Health Association, first as a clinician and clinical supervisor at Conexions Day Treatment and then as the Adult Team Leader at the Revere Community Counseling Center.

Chris is currently the Director of Practicum Training & Continuing Education at The Danielsen Institute at Boston University, a mental health clinic and training institute for psychotherapists in exploring spiritual/existential/religious/theological issues in the context of psychotherapy. His publications explore the intersections of spiritual/existential issues as these surface in his clinical work. His most recent article, published in August of 2007 is a case study, tying together issues of spirituality and meaning-making with dynamic theory.

Christopher is in his 12th year of teaching at Simmons School of Social Work where his courses include Advanced Clinical Practice and Social Work and Spirituality. In addition, he also teaches at the Smith College School for Social Work. His research and teaching interests include: issues in the treatment of severe mental illness; dynamic psychotherapy, mindfulness psychotherapy, and trauma and addictions.
