Adjunct Faculty

Barbara McQueen, M.S.W., LICSW

Barbara McQueen has been a social worker for over twenty years. She earned her M.S.W. from Simmons in 1989, and has been a faculty advisor for the SSW since 2003. Since 2004 she has also taught the foundation level course, the Realities of Racism and Oppression, and this spring had an article published in the social work journal Reflections: Narratives of Professional Helping, entitled “Learning Race,” about her experience as a white woman teaching this course. This year, Ms. McQueen also worked with the Field Education year one placement team. In addition to her work at Simmons, she is a consultant to the social work department at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, has a small private practice in Brookline, and is a supervisor for the clinical fellows program at the Boston Institute for Psychotherapy. She is a former teaching associate in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and a former member of the supervisory staff at Cambridge Health Alliance. She completed the advanced training program in group psychotherapy through the Northeastern Society for Group Psychotherapy in 2003, and has been an instructor in the training program.
