Adjunct Faculty

Tracey McHugh, M.S.W., LICSW

Tracey A. McHugh graduated from Simmons SSW in 1999. She remained connected to Simmons by supervising a number of Simmons interns over the last eight years. In the fall of 2008 she had the opportunity to substitute teach for Mary Gilfus in the Multiple Faces of Trauma class for several weeks and enjoyed the experience so much that she wanted to find a way to increase her connection to the SSW community. She join the SSW adjunct faculty as a lecturer in the fall of 2008 and as a faculty advisor in the fall of 2009.

Ms. McHugh has worked at a comprehensive treatment program for women trauma survivors who had diagnoses of PTSD and other anxiety disorders, mood disorders, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, and self-destructive thoughts and behaviors. Her current position is as the clinical supervisor at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s Center for Violence Prevention and Recovery. She has given many presentations over the years on a variety of topics including self-injury, eating disorders, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), working with rape survivors, the cycle of domestic violence, and working with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. She presents at grand rounds for BIDMC, Tufts Medical School students, Tufts University Medical Center’s psychiatry residents, Harvard Medical School students, the MA Chapter of NASW, and various colleges and community organizations. She began a private psychotherapy practice in 2001 and has maintained that practice, expanding it to include a DBT skills group, consultation, and trainings. She is trained in DBT as well as EMDR.
