Adjunct Faculty

Kathy Lopes, M.S.W., LICSW

Kathy Lopes received her M.S.W. from Simmons in 2005. She has returned to Simmons as a member of the adjunct faculty after spending several years in Washington, DC. In Washington, her most recent position was with the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education, piloting a school-based mental health program in numerous DC public schools. Currently, Ms. Lopes is a supervisor at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. At MSPCC, she provides clinical supervision and management of the Wraparound model.

Her overall social work experience includes case management, clinical, and managerial roles, with specific training in cognitive behavioral, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral and child-centered play therapies. Her roles have been diverse throughout school-systems, child welfare and policy reform. Regardless of her position, she is invested in finding ways to challenge and change outdated systems to meet the current needs of the population she serves.

Ms. Lopes was awarded the Simmons College Recent Graduate Award in 2008 and The Justice for Victims of Crime award in 2010 by the U.S. Dept of Justice. She is also a member of the Simmons College SSW Alumni Association.
