Adjunct Faculty

Marilyn Downs, Ph.D, LICSW

Marilyn Downs is Director of Outreach at the Tufts University Counseling and Mental Health Service and Project Director for the Tufts Campus Suicide Prevention Grant. She has twenty five years of clinical experience in college and community mental health settings. Prior to Tufts she worked at the Stone Center Counseling Service at Wellesley College and at Somerville Mental Health Clinic. She received her MSW from Boston University in 1985 and her Ph.D. in Social Work from Simmons College in 2011.

Dr. Downs has extensive experience teaching, supervising and training. She was adjunct faculty at Boston University School of Social Work from 1993 – 2006, where she taught courses in both the Human Behavior and Clinical Practice sequences. She has published and presented nationally on topics related to suicide prevention and intervention, stigma and help-seeking, clinical supervision, and college mental health practice. She truly enjoys teaching and mentoring new clinicians, and strives to create a learning atmosphere that is collaborative, thought-provoking, and constructive.
