Clubs & Organizations
Clubs & Organizations
SOM women are entrepreneurs by nature. Many develop and participate in student clubs and initiatives that serve their intellectual, social, and career needs.
Here are some of our current student organizations:
Entrepreneurship Club
Entrepreneurship is more than a set of tools and techniques for starting and building a business. It's a mindset, a way of looking at things that is creative and opportunity focused. It's about generating wealth in all its forms: money, independence, power, and innovation. It's about challenge and persistence. It's about creativity and writing new execution strategies for the way things are done. The Entrepreneurship Club provides an environment to exchange ideas and gather support for new ventures. It sponsors community-based programs and creates opportunities to access area women business entrepreneurs and leaders.
National Association of Women MBAs
The National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA) is a national "not-for-profit organization consisting of student and professional chapters "dedicated to empowering women MBAs in order to propel more women into leadership positions in corporate America and to enhance the diversity of the nation's workforce" (www.mbawomen.org). The Simmons School of Management NAWMBA Student Chapter aims to provide members the opportunities to success in the workplace through education, professional development, networking, and community collaboration opportunities that help build and value lasting professional relationships. NAWMBA plans to offer industry centered panel discussions and speakers throughout the year. NAWMBA is just getting started at Simmons, and is open to ideas & suggestions. New Members are welcomed!
Net Impact
Net Impact at Simmons School of Management explores the power of socially responsible business to create a better world, and to achieve commercial success through approaches that respect ethical values, people, communities and the environment. Net Impact helps members broaden their business education, build their networks, refine their leadership skills, and pursue their professional goals. Student Academic Council
The Student Academic Council (SAC) is volunteer group that serves an advisory role to the MBA office. The SAC mission is to enhance students' educational experience inside and outside of the classroom and further the MBA office goal of continuous improvement to the MBA program. Some of SAC roles include: representing students' interests within the SOM community on current or proposed changes to the MBA program; and serving as a liaison between students, faculty, the administration, and the alumnae.
Social Club
The Social Club is a group of students from both the day and evening programs that help plan social events for students throughout the year.
Women of Color Club
The Women of Color Club (WOCC) mission is to empower, develop, and enrich the lives of the SOM women of color through personal and professional development. The WOCC mission is realized through professional development events (hosted by WOCC and local events), social events, and resource sharing. In Professional development we will host; Targeted lectures, Tea Time Discussion, as well as other faculty and career services events. There will be several social gatherings and collaborations within different communities. In hope that the social gatherings will help in building a community where we are comfortable turning to one another for advice, support, resources (access to network, job opportunities, etc.)
