CGO Director, Patricia Deyton, attended the International Colloquium on Women's Empowerment, Leadership
Development, International Peace and Security, in Monrovia, Liberia in March, 2009. The Colloquium, convened
by H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia and H.E. Tarja Halonen, President of Finland, drew over
800 women leaders from Africa and around the world to Liberia to celebrate and draw strength form

LONDON, England (CNN) -- Even in an era in which gender equality within business corporations is an
officially-acknowledged -- if by no means fully realized -- idea, it seems there are some supposed
distinctions between the sexes which are still ok to make. One business school, however, begs to differ. New
research by the Simmons School of Management, based in Boston, Massachusetts, contends that not only do
female managers take more risks than believed, but that they should also more actively seek out credit for

Women Business Leaders are Risk-Takers: Survey Debunks Gender Myth
BOSTON (April 28, 2009) - Contrary to popular belief, women business leaders don't shy from taking risks,
but partake in opportunities considered to be "high-risk" on a regular basis, according to a survey by the
Simmons School of Management in Boston. Existing empirical research on gender and risk suggest women are
risk-averse, particularly assessments that measure risk through financial resource allocation, and health and
safety precautions. But a survey of more than 650 women managers polled during the 2008 Simmons School of
Management national leadership conference in Boston revealed that businesswomen are highly likely to take
risks related to business or professional opportunities.

Professor and CGO Director Patricia Deyton has been asked to serve on an advisory panel for an NSF grant
award for Westat University in Maryland. The 34-month contract granted in late September will allow Westat to
