Results of the 2007 Silverman Business Plan Competition
The founder of an ecotourism consulting company won $20,000 in seed money and in-kind prizes to launch her venture as part of the second annual Silverman Business Plan Competition finals, held October 12 at the Simmons School of Management, the only business school specifically designed for women.
Jennifer Christian-Murtie, a 2007 graduate of Simmons School of Management (SOM) and a current student in the SOM MBA Certificate in Entrepreneurship program, beat two other finalists with her business plan for Yadamu, a company that will have a sweeping impact on the ecotourism industry in Africa. Yadumu will provide comprehensive environmental, economic, and sustainable development advice to hotels, lodges, and camps in the ecotourism industry in Africa.
Before a crowded room of more than 100 attendants, Christian-Murtie delivered a 10-minute presentation summary of her business plan to four distinguished judges who said they were impressed by the creativity and timely nature of her idea, her passion for ecotourism, quality of the business plan, knowledge of the African market and realistic vision and financial goals.
