Visualize your HR workplace challenges…thinking in terms of the bias and stereotypes that can be present in the environment of your organization. These micro-inequalities can breed a hostile work atmosphere and derail teamwork in the workplace, according to our facilitators Dr. Maureen Scully and Dr. Stacy Blake-Beard. Dr. Scully and Dr. Blake-Beard are training employees on how to become “active bystanders” - people who can recognize and diffuse an act of discrimination, harassment or other micro-inequality at the very moment of impact.
To bring the concept of “Bystander Awareness” to life in a dynamic way, this seminar will feature the True Story Theater Troupe - who will act out several workplace scenarios that will illustrate specific examples and skills to empower bystanders to take on this challenging but important role. Attendees will also receive the Bystander Awareness training workbook that has been developed by the Center for Gender in Organizations at Simmons College.
Dr. Scully and Dr. Blake-Beard advocate that “bystanders” can play a pivotal role in showing that the norms of valuing diversity and creating an inclusive workplace are critical. When there are deviations from these norms, bystanders can speak up, make room for silenced voices halt a painful escalation, and make a difference in the workplace.”
