Simmons SOM alumna Deegan '78 holds Camp CEO

The June 27 Daily News Tribune article “Camp teaches about realizing dreams” featured Simmons SOM alumna Gail Deegan ‘78, former executive vice president and CFO of Houghton Mifflin Co. and board member of the Patriots’ Trail Council, who created Camp CEO along with Paulette Balich and the Girl Scouts Patriots’ Trail Council. The camp is open to girls statewide and teach girls in grades 8 to 12 how to network, run a business, what it takes to succeed in business and how to manage projects.

Deegan cited Simmons SOM research Teen Girls on Business—showing that teen girls do not know much about business. “They thought it was boring and about money or sitting in cubicles,” Deegan said. “They didn’t see how you could make a difference in the world of business.” At Camp CEO, businesswomen volunteer their time. “They talk about their experiences. They open the girls’ eyes to the possibilities open to them. The girls get to know themselves,” said Deegan.
