Prof. Kolb quoted in article on gender wage gap
The April 25 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel quoted Deborah Kolb, Deloitte Ellen Gabriel Professor for Women and Leadership, in the article, “After four decades without relief, women must stand up for equal pay.” After four decades of the Equal Pay Act, which makes gender pay discrimination illegal, women in the U.S. still earn an average of 80 cents for every dollar earned by male counterparts. Kolb gave suggestions for women to push back: * Know what your value is and be sure it is visible to the person you want to negotiate with * Gather good information: The more you know, the more defensible what you are proposing will be. “Ask yourself what happens if you don’t get the salary you want. What will you do?” * Know that your contribution is every bit as valuable as that of your male peers.
