Dean Deborah Merrill-Sands moderated panel discussion on "Diversity Driving Corporate Social Responsibility"

On January 29, 2008, SOM Dean Deborah Merrill-Sands moderated a panel discussion for the National Council for Research on Women on “Diversity Driving Corporate Social Responsibility.”

Panelists discussed how to use diversity to leverage socially responsible agendas in the workplace, and examined the dichotomy between social responsibility and profitability. Particular attention was given to the role of principled leadership in advancing corporate social responsibility nationally and globally. Dean Merrill-Sands was quoted as saying: “The challenge for many business leaders is how to align corporate social responsibility with the bottom line. The latest thinking focuses on CSR as a critical lens for identifying strategic business opportunities that can increase profits while also addressing some of the world’s greatest challenges, such as climate change, sustainable development and fair trade.”

The event was attended by over 100 managers and executives from large companies based in New York City. For more information on the National Council for Research on Women, visit www.ncrw.org.
