CGO researchers teach gender equity workshop in South Africa

Simmons SOM Center for Gender in Organziations (CGO) Senior Research Faculty Dr. Evangelina Holvino, assisted by CGO Coordinator Tara Hudson, recently visited South Africa to facilitate a workshop for six sub-Saharan African universities. The workshop, held May 22-26, brought together a representative from each of the six universities to share knowledge on institutional change for gender equity. The meeting of these gender focal points marked the final stage in CGO’s two year project, Capacity Building for Gender Equity and Institutional Change, Phase II, funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York as part of its International Development Program.

CGO’s principal role was to provide support to the six gender focal points in the design and implementation of institutional change efforts through consultation activities so that they can provide more effective training, enhance their strategic plans, and implement other change interventions within their institutions. As part of this capacity building effort and in collaboration with the gender focal points, CGO helped document and facilitate the sharing and articulation of learning and best practices within the African context, built participants’ competencies in the use of organizational change models for gender equity, and facilitated the development of a network of the gender focal points.
