CGO Director Patricia Deyton attends dinner for new president of Chile

Patricia Deyton, Director of the Center for Gender in Organizations at the Simmons School of Management, attended a precedent-setting dinner for 400 top women leaders to honor the new president of Chile, Her Excellency President Michelle Bachelet, in Washington, D.C. on June 8, 2006. The dinner was hosted by The White House Project and, in addition to President Bachelet, featured other distinguished speakers, including U.S. Senator Susan Collins of Maine, U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton of New York, U.S. Treasurer Anna Cabral and actress Geena Davis. In her remarks, President Bachelet noted that when she committed to placing at least 50% women in her cabinet and other sectors of government, she was challenged about whether there were enough qualified women to fill the roles. She has, in fact, had no problem finding and appointing women for these roles and has effectively changed the face of the government in Chile. President Bachelet recently became a member of the Council of Women World Leaders, of which Ms. Deyton is the former Executive Director.
