Prof. Sampson featured on CNN segment "Sleepless in America"
On March 21, CNN’s American Morning ran a segment on the nation’s trend to operate 24/7. People’s days are extended due to long commutes and irregular schedules that no longer fit into 9 to 5. To answer consumer demand, more and more businesses are staying open longer. Simmons SOM Associate Professor and Prince Program in Retail Management Director Susan Sampson was interviewed in the piece. “People need accessibility. Retailers are becoming a little bit more flexible in thinking about how they’re going to serve their customers. The marketplace changed when more business relationships went global, when working women became stressed for time, and when workplace hours became nontraditional. So I think it’s two things happening at the same time: customers demanding more, and retailers going, ‘wait a minute, I’m losing business. What’s happening and what do I need to do to get the business back?’”
