CGO/SOM Host Women of Color Internship Program

The Center for Gender in Organizations (CGO) and the Entrepreneurship Initiative at the School of Management have chosen undergraduate management student Jessica Griffin for the second year of the Women of Color Entrepreneurial Internship Program. Jessica will be working with Kelley Chunn of Kelley Chunn & Associates, which specializes in planning and marketing multicultural and cause-related events. Funded by The Simmons College Diversity Council, this is a continuation of a successful program that was established through Diversity Council funding last year. The internship program enables undergraduate students who are majoring in management to work for a semester in the business of a woman of color entrepreneur with the learning objectives of addressing issues specific to women of color entrepreneurs and learning effective business practices within this context. The interns not only will benefit from a mentoring relationship, but also will gain firsthand knowledge about entrepreneurship and will be able apply the skills they’ve learned in their management classes at Simmons. This activity is a collaboration among the Undergraduate Management Program, the Entrepreneurship Initiative of the SOM, and CGO. Funding provided by the Diversity Council allows students to receive a stipend for their work. The internship program furthers the SOM’s goal of integrating issues of diversity more thoroughly into the curriculum by adding a focus on women of color entrepreneurs to its new entrepreneurship initiative.
