Stacy Blake-Beard and CGO research mentioned in Boston Herald article on helping women in the workplace

The October 31 Boston Herald article entitled, “Boston Workplace Diversity Job and Education Fair; Helping Women - and others” asks, “Does having been there make a boss more sensitive to those who still are there?” The answer tends to be no, that often women are however sensitive to work/life obligations common to both women and men. The trend is to avoid preferential treatment to women, but rather to promote an organizational atmosphere that makes for happier and productive workers. One way that women typically help others climbing the career ladder is through mentoring. The article referred to Center of Gender in Organization’s (CGO) Stacy Blake-Beard’s 2003 research that showed that more women report that they have been mentored by other women, both formally and informally. “Men typically have had more access to resources and positional power necessary to provide the support given in a mentoring relationship.”
