Dean Merrill-Sands profiled in Boston Business Journal
In “Making the Case for Women Leaders” Dr. Merrill-Sands discusses the myths and realities of women and leadership, and how they relate to the Simmons School of Management.
“About 16 percent of the Fortune 500, in terms of corporate officers, are women. Both in our MBA program and in our executive programs, we say to women it’s very important to be aware of that. Because of the cultural norms that are set up, or the assumptions people have … people equate leaders with men. If that’s the case, you have to think of how you actively position yourself and make sure people know about your leadership skills, that you can demonstrate them, that you can articulate them, that you have the sponsors, preferably male sponsors, who can also talk about what a great leader you are. You have to do more of a campaign.”
