WBZ-AM (CBS) Interviewed CGO Director Patricia Deyton about Under-Representation of Women in Executive Levels of Management, Corporate Boards
On May 8, 2008, WBZ-AM (CBS) interviewer Laurie Kirby interviewed CGO Director Patricia Deyton in this radio spot about women being under-represented in the executive levels of management and on corporate boards, referring to the CGO’s recent study “Many Women Aspire to For-Profit Board Membership.” Deyton said that women make up less than 15% of For-Profit boards, which is approximately the same percentage of women who have reached the level of executive management. Deyton was quoted as saying: “It also…parallels very closely to the top management positions. In middle management women represent 50% of the population. So something stops—something’s in the way between middle management and top management.” At the end of the interview, Deyton added “Women have not been given the opportunities until fairly recently, in the last couple of decades, to achieve some the levels of positions that then boards of directors recruit from.” Kirby closed with some of Deyton’s advice for women who want to serve on For-Profit boards: start networking early and hone your financial expertise.
