CGO to Help Promote Leadership of Women of Color
The Center for Gender in Organizations at the SOM has received an $8,000 grant from the National Council for Research on Women (NCRW), in support of a leadership diversity initiative. The project, Diversifying the Leadership of Women’s Research Centers, aims to promote the leadership in the centers of women of color from historically underrepresented groups in the U.S.
The CGO will use the grant funding to create a steering committee comprised of CGO’s women of color affiliates, who will develop a specific agenda for research and other types of work on gender, diversity, and leadership. Among its goals, the committee will work to identify areas of publications specific to gender and diversity, and to increase the number of women of color speaking at CGO events and available through its speakers’ bureau.
The NCRW grant also will provide stipends to support the research of three CGO emerging women of color scholars who are engaged in cutting-edge research in areas of gender and diversity. Each of the scholars will be mentored by one or more members of the steering committee, and will receive editorial support for research articles that will be produced as part of CGO’s publications series.
“The purpose of the grant fits the emphasis on gender and diversity at CGO and will provide some younger women of color scholars with an opportunity to publish work on those topics through CGO,” said CGO Director Patricia Deyton, the grant’s project manager.
The National Council of Research on Women is a network of more than 100 leading U.S. research, advocacy, and policy centers, of which the CGO is a member.
