SOM Student Janet Takaringwa '08 Featured in Boston Business Journal

Simmons School of Management student Janet Takaringwa was featured as an “MBA All-Star” in the Boston Business Journal’s article “A small African school house unlocked her future” by Mary K. Pratt on March 21, 2008. The article discusses the hardships Takaringwa has overcome to be where she is today.

Originally from one of the poorest areas of Zimbabwe, Takaringwa’s father worked in a factory and her mother sold homegrown fruit. They died of AIDS when she was only 15. Being the oldest sibling, she had to support her brothers and sisters, all while pursuing her education using donated books and not having money for breakfast or lunch.

Realizing that a good education would help her in life, Takaringwa enrolled at a summer course taught by Peace Corps teachers where she discovered a passion for accounting. In 2002, she enrolled at the University of Zimbabwe and received her BA degree in tourism and hospitality, a degree she knew would “change her life forever.”

Following her degree, Takaringwa married and moved to the U.S. to with her husband. Currently, she is enrolled at Simmons School of Management and is expected to receive her MBA this August.
