Deans Merit Scholarships
To honor and reinforce Simmons's commitment to the success of women, the SOM has significantly increased the amount of Dean's Merit scholarships available for both full- and part-time students. It is our goal to provide women the opportunity to pursue their MBA with assistance from scholarships and flexible scheduling options to ensure their success in becoming leaders.
The process for being considered for merit scholarships is straightforward. You will automatically be reviewed for these scholarships with your application to the MBA program. Scholarships are awarded to students based on demonstrated academic achievement, managerial experience, and leadership potential.
Our merit scholarships are funded by support from partner organizations, generous alumnae donations, and proceeds from the SOM Annual Leadership Conference. Some of these include:
Citizen's Bank Foundation: In 2001, Citizen's Bank Foundation donated $20,000 to fund the Citizen's Bank Scholarship Fund for immigrant women. In 2003, a full-time student from Nigeria was the recipient of this award. In 2004, scholarships were awarded to two full time students, one from Bulgaria and the other from Ukraine.
Simmons Leadership Scholars Award: This prestigious award is given to two full-time students and one 18-month student (who starts the program in January) who have demonstrated academic excellence and outstanding leadership potential. It is the equivalent of a full-tuition waiver. Minimum requirements include: 3.5 GPA, 580 GMAT, and 5 years solid work experience.
Strategic Mindshare Foundation Award: Established in 2001 by Cynthia R. Cohen, owner of Strategic Mindshare Consulting, a business management consulting firm in Miami, FL, this award is given annually to an incoming high potential MBA student. The foundation was created to fund national mentor matching for women and to grow scholarship activities for women. Their web site is: http://www.strategicmindsharefoundation.org/
The Elaine Lindy Scholarship Fund: Funded by Elaine Lindy in 2004, this scholarship is awarded to an incoming student who does not possess a traditional undergraduate education or to an alumna of the Simmons College Dix Scholars Program who wishes to continue her education at the School of Management.
The Judith Abrams Scholarship: This scholarship was made possible through the generosity of Dorothy Abrams, who created the scholarship in memory of her daughter, Judith, who was a Simmons alumna from the class of 1993. This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student who has articulated plans to use the Simmons MBA to pursue a career change upon graduation.
