The SOM will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, September 1, 2008.

Building Hours at SOM- Commonwealth Avenue Campus

Monday-Thursday: 7am-9:30pm
Friday: 7am-4:30pm (only exception is August 29, last day of summer hours with the college closing at 2pm!)
Saturday:7am-5pm
Sunday: CLOSED

First Ever Travel Course for MBA Students!

On popular demand, we are launching two sections of travel courses for the MBA students in Spring/Summer 2009!

Spring 2009 to Brazil (Visiting Sao Paulo, Uberlandia, and Rio de Jeneiro): Held during Spring Break, March 5-15 will be led by Professor Sylvia Maxfield

Summer 2009 to China (Visiting Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Beijing): Held approximateld May 18-29 will be led by Professor Teresa Nelson

Travel costs all inclusive (airfare, visa, ground transportation, meals, double shared lodging, excursions) are $3,000.

The course is 3 credits, and is titled "Sustainable Business in the Emerging Global Markets". We will visit local universities and businesses, and meet local scholars and business executives.

The applications are due on October 15th, 2009. Contact the faculty for further information.  Contact the MBA office or the Director- International Outreach, Professor Vipin Gupta at vipin.gupta@simmons.edu for the application forms and further information.

Student ID Cards

All new students have received their IDs during Foundations. Returning students have new IDs in the MBA office, but you MUST turn in your old ID to get a new one! If you have lost your old ID, you will have to pay a $25 fee.

Fall 2008 eLearning Courses Available August 25th

Every Fall 2008 Simmons course that is listed in the Simmons AARC system has a corresponding eLearning course site, available on http://my.simmons.edu/elearning

Registration Updates

Accounting Section Added on Wednesday Nights

As of August 28th, we had 56 students registered in Financial Accounting. We have made the decision to add an additional section on Wednesday nights that will also be taught by Jane Mooney. We think this is better from both a teaching and learning perspective!  Here is the schedule for the new section:

Wednesdays, 6-9pm, Sept. 10th-December 8th.

PLUS: Monday, Nov 24 and Monday, December 8 (Final Exam)

Please also note that anyone planning to go to the CSO expo on December 3rd will be allowed to attend the Monday class the week that event is running!

Authentic Leadership Course

The Authentic Leadership Course will be running AS SCHEUDLED. There will be NO changes to the Authentic Leadership schedule.

Research Assistant Needed for Entrepreurship Project

The Simmons Entrepreneurship team seeks two MBA students to assist with a research study on Gender and Entrepreneurship Education. The time frame for the project is September and October of 2008 and will begin immediately. The hourly wage is $15.  Any interested students should contact Professor Susan Duffy at susan.duffy@simmons.edu. Program on Negotiation Looking for Simmons Students to Participate in Their Student Leader Program

Each year the Harvard Program on Negotiation has an opportunity for 2 student leaders from each of the related academic programs in the Boston area get together at least once to network and discuss possible collaboration opportunities. They would love to have a couple of students from Simmons involved, and their first open house is September 15th. Library Tours

If you are interested in learning how to access the library’s resources from home or work, or would like to become more familiar with what the library has to offer you, please stop by for a library tour.  We will be holding tours the first week of September on Tuesday 9/2 @ 12.15pm, Wednesday 9/3 @ 12.15pm, & Thursday 9/4 @ 5.15pm. An additional tour will be given the second week of September on Thursday 9/11 @ 5.15pm.  Tours will last approx. 15 minutes.

Labor Day Week Staffed Library Hours

The library will be closed Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (8/30 – 9/1) and will be staffed Tuesday – Friday (9/2 – 9/5) from 8:30 – 4:30.
