Cheryl Dorsey

Cheryl DorseyCheryl Dorsey liked the Simmons Executive Education programs so much that she came back for more.  Cheryl is a practice manager for Boston University Plastic Surgery Associates, Inc., affiliated with the Boston University Medical Center and Boston Medical Center.

In a health-care market defined by rapid change and new opportunities, Cheryl is a dedicated lifelong learner. "I'm always looking to improve," she said. "In management, you want to be the best you can be and Simmons has certainly helped me bring great skills back to the office." "Developing leadership tools that I can utilize on the job and right away" is a practical aspect of Simmons Executive Education that Cheryl really appreciates.

Like so many of us, Cheryl spends a great deal of time in meetings. "I always thought that meetings were just meetings," she said. After completing The Negotiation Edge program, however, Cheryl gained some powerful new insights. "I learned that meetings are actually negotiations. You need to know what you want to achieve from every meeting," she added. Cheryl now approaches meetings in a much more productive manner, offering that "great negotiations mean that all parties can be winners."

Many women in management also face the seemingly daunting challenges of surviving and even thriving in environments dominated by men. Cheryl is certainly no exception. "I chose Simmons because it has insights into helping women develop the tools needed to deal with the old boys' network." She learned plenty from her professors in this regard, but just as much from the perspectives of her fellow students. "I certainly learned that you need to have players on your team – people rooting for you – and that these alliances can help you lead effectively."

Know what you want to achieve
