Amanda Thomas

Simmons MBA '06 and Certificate Program '07

Amanda Thomas recognized entrepreneurship as an avenue to make social change. She is now employed at Concert Pharmaceutical, a very early stage venture capital funded pharmaceutical company, as a business development manager.

The community commitment and a personal orientation to principled leadership at the School of Management have guided Amanda to work for organizations that focus on a "more for profit" business. Through her practicum at GreenFuel Technologies, an early stage, company that develops algae bioreactor systems to convert the CO2 in smokestack gases into clean, renewable biofuels, she learned how to measure company performance not only as it relates to profit and return but also in terms of the impact a company has on society.

As a participant in the Simmons Entrepreneurship program, I had the opportunity to join a cohort of women who study, achieve and support one other and will continue to be a lifelong resource throughout my career. Together, we learned how to create and build organizations that have an obligation to consider the interests of customers, employees, shareholders, communities, and ecological considerations in all aspects of their operations.
