Message From the Dean
The Simmons School of Management is on the move — in every respect.
With innovative programs, a first-class faculty, and accomplished, ambitious students, the SOM is in a position of real strength. And I'm pleased to report that we're moving forward with an exciting project that will enhance every aspect of our learning community for decades to come: a spectacular new "green" home for the School of Management, right on the main Simmons campus.
Our new home will complement the SOM's mission and potential perfectly. The building is designed to be both beautiful and practical, with all the amenities appropriate for a 21st-century school of management. It also will be one of the most environmentally friendly buildings in Massachusetts — part of my commitment to "walking the talk" as we educate women to be principled leaders who make positive contributions to their communities.
The many practical benefits of the SOM's new home include its potential for strengthening our work culture by uniting all of our faculty and staff under one roof. Together with our students, we will enjoy state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and learning, and an on-campus location that promotes more opportunities for creative collaboration with other Simmons schools and programs.
From the start, our architects at Cannon Design have been committed to incorporating the SOM's history, mission, and culture in the design process. As a result, the building incorporates a number of special features, including a grand stairway inspired by the one we've enjoyed at Commonwealth Avenue. And at night, the building will be a beacon welcoming our evening students. I'm confident we'll all feel at home.
The architects are part of a dedicated team working hard to turn our vision for the School of Management and its new building into a reality.
Sincerely,
Deborah Merrill-Sands
Dean
